You may try Pranayama - Yoga breathing. It is pretty simple and you may find some good video on youtube to start with.

well...regarding your breathing problem...I suggest you get it checked out before you start doing anything serious. And once you do, 'run' at a pace that is marginally faster than the speed you usually walk at.It'll take a while to get faster but it sure is worth it.And also, once you get checked out and are in the clear to start, take part in as many events as you can and just try to complete 'em.Dont hesitate to stop and walk and take breaks and most importantly, enjoy what you do.

Saw your wall post on breathing problem when running. You may need to elaborate a bit, but I'll go ahead and tell you what I think. When running, take all the help you can from your body and nature. While breathing through your nose is certainly ideal, it's not always easy, so open your mouth and breathe in and out. Also, take "deep breath" - as in, breathing from your tummy - yoga style. Breathe out till your stomach is squished in. Also, slow down when you are out of breath - it maybe your heart rate, not just your oxygen capacity. Hope it helps.

For Absolute beginners NRC is best place...

When we start, running continuously for even 10 minutes is a challenge. One way is to follow 3:1 method (3 min run and 1 minute walk) ..In few days/weeks you can go to 5:1, then 7:1 and then 10:1. Dont think of pace at all during initial phase. Make a time- goal - like a total of 30 minutes on road then 45 minutes on road and so on. Motivation is important- I would recomment the book, "Running for mortals (John Bingham) and movie, "Spirit of marathon" to keep yourself motivated.
Happy running

hi, welcome to RFL and running. the next run in bangalore is the sunfeast10k 2010 on 23rd may. u can drop in to kanteerva stadium where NRC happens every saturday. NRC is nike run club. it is a good place to run and train. coach beedu sir will guide and train. apart from this , every fortnightly RFL conducts runs in outskirts of bangalore, which u will come to know through this website and by mail.
If u are a novice runner, then the right place for u to start is NRC . as i dont know where u stay, kanteerva stadium is in the heart of the city, near to cubbon park. NRC starts at 6.30 am on saturdays . from next week it will be satuday and sunday as for the preparation for sunfeast10k. have a nice time running and enjoy ur runs.

with regards,
kishore kumar
