Hi Venkat,
We ran together in one of Bandra-NCPA run in Oct 11. Inputs that I got from you on that run will go long way in making me better runner. I had one query about the GPS and since could not think of any one better than you .. here it comes.
I am using recently donwloaded apps called Sports Tracker downloaded on my Nokia E-72 to measure my distance.
I ran following distance on 4th Dec -

And based on the same I ran following distnace on 18th Dec - Where I was planning to run FM distance.

Strange thing that I observed is distance between 5-10km is different on each of the runs. Is this kind of error possible? I started my run on 18th with a target of running 42k but ended up running 40k as per the run. And more interesting is same run distance wise measure only upto 38k on google maps.
So I am really confused if I can use the app that I am using are there any other apps suitable to E72?
Hi Venkat, Firstly apologies for responding late.. not been checking the blog lately. And secondly I logged in for Meghna and by mistake put in this query, the query is actually for me.
I got a Timex GPS watch, its GPS signal is very weak, my nokia catches better signals maybe becos it accesses from the Towers. It takes a long time to catch and 70% time it does not, add to it the current rainy weather in Mumbai, I am not sure where the GPS receiver is located but it happens all the time, there is a Satellite View which has different Nos and I am not able to make any head or tail, and these keeps on changing even if you are stationary. The write up on the website has no specific on weak signal, only they say that if you want strong and accurate GPS signal keep WAAS/EGNOS ON which I do.. but unfortunately very disappointed. Not sure how Garmin works so well in India, is it a Timex issue or this piece is faulty. this is the watch if it helps.

Meghna Tuli:
Welcome to the group and we owe you a debt of gratitude for pulling us out of an 'indecent' situation :-)
I do not know much about Timex range but I know something about GPS so let me try and see if I can troubleshoot.
When you say 'weak' what do you mean?Do you mean intermittent? Or do you mean that it takes a long time to catch on?
Are you located in the open with no tall bldgs or tree cover? Does this happen the first time in a new location or does it happen all the time?
Do you know where the GPS receiver is located on the unit? It is facing skywards?
It there some position / menu to see how many sattelites you are receiving?
Venkat,
send me your email id please. I need to send you the soft copy of the book.
Cheers!
Ashok
