Sunday long run in Kolkata

Anyone in Kolkata interested in Sunday long runs (more than 15 k)? I run around Rabindra Sarobar and start at about 5 AM, pace approx 9-9.30 minute per mile for the long runs. Training for a late September marathon.

marathon schedule

Spring training for marathon is due to culminate this month. I'll start next cycle of marathon training early June. As usual, I am perplexed by plethora of training plans available. Should I follow Haal Higdon's plan or FIRST plan (3 days a week) or Pfitzinger 55 miles a week schedule or Lydiard's way (base mileage for few weeks followed by anaerobic).. every plan is so different and they all claim scientific logic. I know, there can't be one opinion but I will love to know your views.See More

Racing flats for training

I know that racing flats have less cushioning. But one view is that training in these flats helps strengthen your muscles and tendons - better prepares you for the big day. Would love to have your views.ThanksSee More

Hi Hrishikesh,
Thanks for your encouragement. You are an amazing runner. And I hope "bullets" like you and Fauja Singh keep inspiring me to go on:)

BTW, which fall races are you planning to run? I'm thinking of running the Bay State Marathon and the Marine Corps Marathon - the MCM is sort of a tradition for me, but I do typically get the best out of my long distance commute and squeeze in a couple of marathons - maybe target a sub-3 for one of them this time :-)

Happy running!

Rishi -

My shortest interval between two marathons so far have been 2 weeks - I've done less than 4 weeks 3 or 4 times now.

About two marathons 4 weeks apart, I'd say absolutely go for it! Try to do the first one easy so you can recover well for the second one.

Funny you asked this question. In April, I'm planning to run two marathons in 6 days - on two coasts in US - Boston and Big Sur. They have a "Boston 2 Big Sur" challenge that includes extra bling, jacket etc.

Hrishikesh,

Thanks for your response on the "Shoe poll" discussion.

I was reading a review of the "Asics Gel Nimbus 11" at http://www.ransacker.co.uk/2009/08/12/asics-gel-nimbus-11-review/.

Generally it gives a very good impression in the review but for one point which you might need to consider:

"One thing that you may want to bear in mind, I’m 14st and like me the Asics Gel Nimbus 11 are pretty bulky (345g). If you are a lightweight neutral runner you may want to take a look at the excellent New Balance 758’s. Overall I have been very impressed with the Asics Gel Nimbus 11 and I have also stuggled to find a bad word about them across the web."

Happy running and all the best for your next long run.

Thanks and regards,
Sas
