The morning after...

I ran my first race – the Sunfeast Bangalore 10K – in 2010 – at an amazing timing of 1:26:25. Ok, so you know now - that I walked most of it but it still felt like an achievement because I had ‘dunnit’. I didn’t run for a while after that and jumped in at the Bangalore Ultra for nothing less than the 25kms. I have to confess here again that they had not opened the 12.5km category when I registered and since I had made a public declaration that I was going for 25km, it was just too embarrassing…See More

A few good men!!

By the time you are 35 you seem to have achieved all that you set out to achieve as a teenager – marriage, kids, job, education etc. and suddenly there are no goals!! This is why it is called ”mid-life crisis”. To overcome my crisis I decided to run the half marathon. Easier said than done – first it was a slip-disc (that I have had since I was a teenager), then a leg injury (that I acquired racing my daughter), pain in my knees and all other parts of the body. Maybe I am just too old (and…

Good to see you around. Don't worry about timings ...they will improve slowly. Focus on the building the mileage slowly weekly.......I guess you'll be doing around 24 k now . It is like climbing 3 steps (week) and then go back to step 2 and then climbing back to step 4,5,6 ...so on and so forth. If there is pain or weakness take a day off or 2 days off , you will become stronger after rest days.
I am sure you 'll do well in next HM . Train well and train wisely!
Happy Running !

Hi Gauri,
Just read your comment on finishing 10k in 1:30 odd mins . Don't worry consistency is the key ..keep running slowly increasing your mileage not more than 10 % per week , every 3rd week cut back your mileage for recovery .
By the way , I was 97kgs when I first began running 2 yrs back : 10k took me same time as yours. Fast walkers used to laugh at me ...since they overtook me and commented ...why run you can walk faster . Today , I am much better shape ....thanks to running .
So keep running and smiling.....you'll get there .
All the best,
Viramani ( Veera)
