Milton: Gosh you write so much to explain your point. I did not read a single line.

varun, ha ha, the russian is much like sir rednose. all in it for the winning. sir alex doesn't care how they win but win they must at all costs - critical goals given thru penalties, offsides, injury time minutes etc we've all been witness to over the years. everyone is in the same racket buddy. ha ha.

and anand, exactly as you said: it's a sport,  that's why there are strategies and counter-strategies. of course for sure you were asleep when chelsea were winning 8-0, 8-1, 6-0... etc two seasons ago. for thrill seekers that would have been exciting football. for those that know chelsea, the relentless 1-0s under jose mourinho were effective football and hence the more desired. how perverse is it to think that there is only one way to play football.

idiotic even. as most teams have found out againts barca these past few years. you'd be utterly foolish to try and play open, 'attractive' (or barca-style) football against a team like barca. they'll slaughter you. so many teams tried and played right into their hands. but chelsea took another route. a very effective route. therefore still unbeaten against barca for some 5-6 years and 7 straight games. barca have beaten every other of the 55 teams they've played against in that time.

i'm a little surprised that you, who have played so much football do not realise the importance of strategy and defensive style of football. chelsea do and that is why they are CL champions. the so called 'boring' football is strategy too. bloody delighted chelsea are not foolish like so many other teams.

finally, in case you guys are too naive to realise... football and sport at that level is about titles and money. what use playing the most attractive game and winning nothing. that's like shooting yourself in the foot.

you guys don't watch much football then. the so-called boring style of football has been employed by any number of teams (club and country) for decades. have you seen how italy or its club teams - milan and inter play? most people dismiss the entire damn thing as bloody boring style. but how effective is that? italy/milan are amongst the most feared teams in football.

if only playing attractive football was enough, then brasil should have been winning every world cup, and arsenal relentless champions. in any case, attractive is i the eye of the beholder. football doesn't just comprise strikers. defenders are key to the entire plot. as the old adage goes: you can score and still not win. but if you do not concede, you can never lose!

chelsea have had enough teams parking the bus in english and european championships over the years - ask me i've watched almost every chelsea game in the past several years... and those bus parkers have included united. but we don't complain. we're pragmatic about it. it's a style of football, and it takes a an enlightened perspective to appreciate that.

varun, goals are great but if that's the only thing you look for then that's not football at all. a goalless draw can still be nail biting. it's about how the plot develops, how strategies foment, how the gaffer has sometimes to think out of the box. you'd get a zillion goals watching urchins play street football - hardly something you'd go out on a limb to watch.

anand, spain didn't park the bus granted, but they played exactly the boring keep-posession-at-all costs type of football that you guys are slagging. unless you were watching another WC. spain were boring but bloody effect which only proves my point.

historically so have germany (except in 2010) and italy. and how effective? 7 world cup titles between them, and no team has made more semis than germany.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. goals are exhilarating, but if that's the only reason you watch football, how tragic! it's as much a bloody game of chess, and even a cautious strategy filled game can be intriguing.

of course the world is divided by chelsea fans and haters. sweeping statements about chelsea football... but how closely do you watch the EPL? have you seen man utd games? sir alex has the powers that be in his back pocket. it's no more injury time but if man u are down then, as-many-minutes-until-united score. it's happened any number of times.

at least chelsea plays boring football, but they play football! and a very effective brand at that as (in the past 10 years) three league titles, any number of FAs a CL and reaching at least the semis of 6 of the last 7 CLs prove.

and as always, when a team becomes universally hated, it means they are feared as a team you cannot trifle with. i can understand your emotion.

in the end history remembers the winners and the great teams. just attractive  football is for thrill seekers. base T20 style. and we all know, that's just not cricket!

@anand I m sure the Russian doesn't mind whichever way Chelsea wins d title!

N that's why everyone loves to watch football - for the goals ! Not for some team that doesn't want to entertain but just foil the opponents game. No taking away from the fact that you are the champs mate but this just ain't any fun. As much as I don't like barca I absolutely LOVE them for their skills, flair n the fact that they play a "forward" game! No offence :-)

Milton: Football is a sport, you have to play. The meaning of play is to indulge in a bout with your opponent, it means to sabre rattle, not wait for the opponent to die of boredom. And while you attempt to play, throw in some style, use skills, some tactical genius...not park your entire team at the back of the park. Sorry, your football analysis are pathetic: Spain did not employ the `parking the bus' to win the world cup.

I hope I don't have to watch such tactics for the rest of my life. It is sickening. Agreed Bayern were staid, they did not try anything new, their moves were patterned, they were so european.

If I was Abrahimovic, I would rather take a title that I won, than this which I took waiting for the opponent who died trying to win.

anand congratulations for being the first to decipher the futility of the offer :-)) you nailed it there, genuine offer after 250 years, that's about a year and two months after we get your first treat. still waiting too. hehehehe. kidding buddy, as always.

hah, chelsea haters. 10-0 or parking the bus is called football too. everything need not be attractive football, as has been proved historically. chelsea played the way italy or germany have played for decades, and look at those records. it may not be beautiful, but it can be damn effective. it's a strategy and it still takes some helluva skill and concentration to play. it's like what spain did to win 2010 or greece in euro 2004.

in the EPL, aresenal play the most exciting and attractive football, but have won zilch since the past 7-8 seasons. infinitely happier backing a boring team that knows how to win. like it or not, there's huge money riding on it. survival in the CL translates into a warchest. mercenary as it may sound, can't separate football at that level from economics any more.

and varun... flash in teh pan or not, it still IS the CL title. learn to live with it. lucky or not is a matter of perspective. it would mean united winning on a terry slip four years ago in moscow was the biggest stroke of luck. should we dismiss that title as one that wasn't earned? it's football buddy... deal with it heh heh.

to get where chelsea did, they endured a season falling to pieces, sacking a manager midstream, coming back from 3-1 down vs napoli, holding out against wave upon wave of attack in the QF... and staying unbeaten against barca for 7 games now - something that currently, 55 other teams across europe haven't been able to do for years.

shall i mail you guys chelsea membership forms already? can it wait until i get back. i can understand your tearing hurry ;-))
