Here is a nice article based upon recent scientific research on the impact of running and other forms of exercise on the brain. There are some comforting findings here including:

"there has not been any instance of a negative effect from voluntary running"

My own experience has been that running enhances my productivity. Most of the time when I am running, I am thinking about my research or teaching and I have found this to be really helpful.

Running long is a form of meditation - how else would you run long? So, its good for the mind.
Sripad Sir , it is true running makes brain active and alert which help to raise the productivity.

@Zico: You are right - running is like meditation. It also calms your mind and helps you focus.
long distance running is equal to meditation.
