Stepping outside the comfort zone is the price I pay to find out how good I can be. If I planned on backing off every time running got difficult I would hang up my shoes and take up knitting.
Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swaps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it's yours.

Thanks Mohana. I do not know which is better Vivo or Vibrams. Will check out.
Congratulations on your Ultra Ric. I'm sure you have scenic courses considering the pics I've seen sent by you and by Russell.
@ Mohana - Thanks and yes, I think a trail run there would be ideal. Coimbatore has a newly inducted running community. I hope they think about this.
Ran Barefoot for 30 mins @ Mahalaxmi Racecourse. Enjoyed the run on The Grass. Here's the Training Guide on Barefoot Running http://trainingclinic.vivobarefoot.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/Prop...
Cheers!!!
@Zico : Nice quote. Also the trail at Coimbatore looks good. Wish RFL has an Ultra there.
@Ashok : I received my Vivo Barefoot Shoes today. Socks attached to the shoes which are removable for washing. I tried it and found it very comfortable. Will start using it gradually. It is very broad in the front unlike other regular running shoes and also very light. I think it costs around Rs 3,900. Their online site is www.highline.in
@ Ric - No I do not use cotton socks. I use either Nike or Asics running socks, But in hot and humid conditions a 20 miler makes them wet. But still they are manageable.
@ Roshni- Thanks, I have seen those, but they advertise them as trainers and I wouldnt run in them. Will await for Vibrams.
Ted today ran with the Pune runners. A great morning that went off very well. We had some real greats of Pune such as Vivek, Aparna, Bhupendrasingh etc while Raj also joined us from Mumbai. I got a personally autographed book. Great and easy going guy.
Jitu: I saw the 3 pdfs about excesses being harmful...there the sentence contains the answer that I wanted to give too :-)
Levity apart, when we say something is good, it is not an absolute definition but rather a relative one. Much of the confusion happens because of this lack of understanding.
Let me give an example. For someone who does not consume fruit, a juice is GOOD. At least that way he gets some juice into his system. But for someone who already consuming fruit juice regularly, eating sliced fruit is GOOD. By having sliced fruit ( as in a fruit salad ) he is getting more fibre and other nutrients into his system which is lacking in the juice besides being less oxidised. But for someone who is eating fruit salads regularly, having the whole fruit is GOOD. In fruit salads often sugar water is added to prevent oxidisation and having the whole fruit prevents both sugar and oxidisation.
So you can see that even in a simple case of consuming fruits there are different degrees of what is GOOD depending upon the background of the person / situation.
But we cannot take this advice that is proper in the given context and apply it all over the place. Flax seed for example is good, but you cannot have flax seed in everything, though there might be an occasion article on how you can integrate it into many situations, it cannot be construed that one can go overboard on it.
So generally speaking moderation in everything..including moderation :-)

@Ric- Congratulations!!! on ur Ultra marathon. Nice description of your experience.
@Ashok- Adidas Vibrams are availabe for 5k. Last Sunday, I had visited a Adidas showroom in Colaba and I saw them there. It may be available in all the showrooms of Adidas.
Ashok, are you using cotton socks? They should be manmade material the same as a technical tee.
Thanx coach for the feedback :)
And not in my wildest of dream I will dare asking a Bengali to stop eating 'Fish'; they very well will throw fish along with Frying Pan towards me :)
