Due to a clash of dates, this run was originally restricted to Twilight Zone runners, but since the Rajmachi hike now stands cancelled, it is being thrown open to all runners in the public domain. Hence the short, short notice.
The weather is still conducive to good running, and we hope that like last time, Marine Drive will recreate an ethereal aura for us again.
The run will comprise of almost the same route as our first edition, with one minor change. Since the previous route was measured to be around 19.2K, we will start off in the reverse direction from Carter Road, run the length of it (till Cafe Coffee Day), return to the starting point and then rejoin the previous route. This will in effect take the total distance over 21K, in fact closer to 22K (the Carter
Road loop working out to an additional 2.5K or thereabouts).
The key details are as follows:
Date: Sunday, 5th September, 2010.
Time: Assembly - 5:15 am; Starting - 5:30 am
Starting point: Southern end of Carter Road Promenade, next to Otters Club, Bandra (W).
Provisional destination: NCPA, Nariman Point.
Distance: Almost 22 K
Nature of run: Training
Route: For the benefit of those who did not run last time, the rest of the route is as follows: Following the Carter Road loop... Turner Road, turn right at HP petrol pump signal, straight past Bandra Talao, Lucky Restaurant, Mahim Causeway, at St. Michael's Church veer right on to Cadell Road, straight past Hinduja Hospital, Shivaji Park, Siddhi Vinayak Temple, straight ahead past New Passport Office (Bengal Chemicals), past Century, at Poddar Hospital stay on the main Annie Besant Road going left towards Worli Naka, then turn right at the Naka, keep straight past Poonam Chambers, Mela Restaurant (from here it's the Mumbai Marathon route), Haji Ali, Heera Panna, turn left at Cadbury House, up Kemps Corner Flyover, then down, turn right towards Babulnath temple, and finally left on to Marine Drive; do the entire length of Marine Drive and finish at NCPA.
A few runners seeking mileage as part of FM training will additionally be running back from NCPA towards Bandra. I myself hope to attempt 23-25K, which will hopefully be achieved by retracing a part of Marine Drive and returning to the finish point - of course depending on whether anything is left in the tank.
Those intending to start from other points are welcome to join us anywhere en route. Please post so we will know.
Like last time, we could then move to Stadium Restaurant, Churchgate, for breakfast (dutch of course ;), unless we can find ourselves a magnanimous sponsor in the next three days... Bhasker (of rich aunties fame) are you listening!).
Very importantly: Unlike last time, there is unlikely to be any assistance by way of water, bananas or any other supplies either en route or at the finish; again, unless somebody offers to organise this, like Krishna, Jayati and Sundaresan did last time. So all runners are urged to carry their own water bottles, gatorade etc, and monies to replenish water stocks along the way. There are a
few shops en route. Neither is there likely to be first aid supplies such as spray, bandages etc; so please attempt this run only if you're in condition and regular training, having successfully completed similar distances in the recent past.
In any case, all runners run at their own risk and take responsibility for themselves.
The starting point at the Otter's Club end of Carter Road is accesible from Bandra Station (W) by bus (Route 220, but unlikely to get service that early in the morning), and by auto (ask for Carter Road and ensure you're first moving in a northern direction towards Khar; the Western direction takes you elsewhere).
Free parking is available outside Jogger's Park (sufficient for 20-25 cars), which is just next to our starting point.
Drinking water and toilet facilities are available inside Joggers Park on a nominal entry ticket of Rs. 2- and an additional toilet charge of Re 1-. The park opens at 5 am.
Obviously, there will be no arrangement for holding baggage. You run with whatever you land up with.
To give us some indication of how many are coming so we can contact you in case you are late, please indicate your confirmation on this thread.
Once again remember, this is only a training run with a focus on camaraderie and endurance; so keep the steroids at home and give the Garmin a rest.
It was exhilirating last time out. Your enthusiasm will ensure it matches up again.
See you Sunday!

happy, no issues. in fact i wouldn't advise you coming all the way from thane. this was originally planned as a low-key run, and it looks like it will remain that way as most runners don't seem inclined. krish and i had planned to run it alone anyways as part of our training every few weeks or so - that plan stays intact, so don't take the trouble of travelling such a distance as we may end up running alone after all :)
