I shall be running the Standard Chartered Mumbai (Half) Marathon coming Jan-09 for the first time. I completed the 25km Ultra this Sunday. Can anyone comment on training needed for Mumbai marathon. Tips from runners who have been there before would be great to have.

Thanks

You've done 25K and have nothing to worry if you are doing only the half M at Mumbai. You need to do some speedwork and can look up some of the websites for tips. You have 5 weeks for such speedwork and that is just about enough. Good Luck

Hi, you havent shared your goals for mumbai, is there some time you are targeting? also, how long have you been running, what is your normal running schedule like, etc; and you general fitness level and age - all these factors will determine what is best for you

Speed running - unless you are into running for sometime, have a good level of fitness, below 35y, a proper running gait, etc - can "wear" you down and result in injury which you dont need now; so unless timing is an impt criteria, go easy and do the following..

The difference between the Ultra and Mumbai is the latter is only "road"; so maximise your running these balance days on road, and try for some places which have uphill in parts as the route has 2 flyovers; finally, get acclimitised to running starting 7.30am so that you are ready for mumbai weather (assuming 6.45am till 9am as being the time you will be running there)

Thanks Ashok for your comments. Time is not important as this is my first time in Mumbai although i am confident of doing it within 150minutes i.e around 9:15am.
I have been running since June 08 and since September have run 30-40 Km every week. The distance (21.097) isnot the issue as i have covered it a few times but was curious to know how weather in Mumbai effects as well as running with so many participants, logistics delays etc.

As you mentioned shall practice late runs i.e startng 7:30am. Thanks.
