Runners for Life caught up with Sabine Tietge one of RFL’S intrepid runners to find out about what running means to her and learn more about how running has now become a constant in her life. Sabine’s story is an inspiration to any one who is considering running.
Sabine started running in 2006 and after joining RFL in 2007, she completed her first half marathon in May 2007.
This was followed by Sabine running her first full marathon at the ‘Kaveri Trail Marathon’ near Mysore. Incredibly she completed her first Ultra Marathon the same year when she took part in the Bangalore Ultra Marathon 2007.
From then on there was no looking back as Sabine took part in the 2008 Mumbai Marathon and won in the ‘veteran’ category. This was topped off in May 2008 when Sabine ran a marathon for the first time in her native country of Germany
About ‘What Running Means to Me’?
“I started running regularly when I was misdiagnosed with diabetes and told to lose close to 20 kilos. Starting from the treadmill, I slowly moved on to running longer distances on road as my confidence improved.
I had my first child at the age of 42 and attribute running to staying fit, healthy and in shape at the time of delivery. With my doctor’s permission, I continued running 6 months into my delivery and gave birth to healthy baby girl by natural delivery. My speedy recovery post birth was attributed by my doctor to being fit and active, thanks to running.
I am hoping to run my first full marathon post delivery later this year and intend making running and a healthy lifestyle part of my daughter’s life once she is older. My dream is to one day participate in a marathon with my daughter :-)”.
Sabine now has her sights on the upcoming marathons this year and the Great Tibet Marathon which will take place next year.
Cheers Sabine and keep clocking the mileage!
