
Now lets take a sneak peak into the euphoric world of running from the eyes of the witty, enthusiastic, energetic and inspiring Runner of the Fortnight, Deepak Mhasavade.
1. Running for me means:
Running is my way of kick starting which leaves me highly energetic and alert through my day. The energies associated with running give me a sense of complete relaxation and a deeper feeling of connecting to myself. Besides being a recreational activity, it is my routine to detoxify and lead a healthy life.
2. How many marathons/half marathons:
Ultra runs:
Bangalore Ultra 2007- 78K in 9’37’’
Bangalore Ultra 2008- 60K in 6’30’’
Full Marathons:
Official -14 marathons
RFL fortnightly run - 2 Full marathons
So totally 16 marathons since my first marathon in SCMM2006 till Auroville 2009
Out of 16 – I ran 8 marathons in 8 months (1 marathon /month), from July 2008- Feb 2009.
Half Marathons: Official - 2 and more than 21 k in many practice runs
3. I run because:
Assuring myself that you have some thing (running) to live for if all so called good things are extinct out of life! Also to encourage and set an example for my daughter.
4. Personal bests:
Ultra Marathon 2007 - 78K in 9:37
Full Marathon - 3:50 Hyderabad July 2008
Half Marathon - 1:43 Midnight Marathon 2009
5. My favorite running shoes:
Adidas Supernova
6. When did I start running:
In November 2005.
7. My toughest marathon:
It was the 2008 Ultra Marathon wherein I was accompanied by cramps in my left calf muscle from the 35th km to the end as a best friend.
8. If I wasn’t running, I’d most likely be:
Chain smoker!!
9. My favorite running route:
Whitefield Bangalore - Inner circle (600mtr loop)
10. Advice to runners out there:
Infect as many people as possible with this bug which makes you run!
11. If there’s one thing I’d change about running, it would be:
Costly running gear and energy supplements. I would like to research and develop low cost energy bars/ gels/ drinks.
12. When I’m running uphill on my last lap, my brain is saying:
All beautiful girls in the world are waiting out there on the bus stop after this hill and better you reach there before the bus!
13. My favorite running benefits are:
I correlate my running with:
• Confidence in my professional life
• Respect from friends and work place
• Detoxification- both physical and mental
• Beer after the run (toxin after detoxification)
• And of course health
14. What do I like listening to while I run:
Cheering crowd in Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (Can RFL make it available in MP3 format!!) else the latest, fast Bollywood tracks.
