I ran the Chennai Half Marathon of 21.1 Kms yesterday.
It was my first half marathon and it was a profound experience.

However I guess my shoes were not in their top condition, which led to some soft tissue injuries in my feet.

I have a red (Blood red) swelling on the inner side of my feet. I have had boils/swellings (I don't know whats it called exactly) before, but its never red like this.

Has anyone come across such an injury? Is it because of internal bleeding?

What do you do if you get an injury you can't explain?

If its unusual you should let a doc take a look at it.

If its on the inside but the sole of your feet, in the same place for both feet (near the arch), it could be the precursor to a blister. It usually starts with a red spot due to friction. If this is true, apply vaseline to the part and train, so as to reduce friction.
congrats for the run!

such injuries happen when the soles or socks u wear rub the feet..advise
u consult a doc...may require anti inflamatory treatment n rest to ur feet...

well done once again!
I'd imagine it's a blood blister, which is quite common when you run long distances in abrasive clothes/socks/shoes. It should dry out in a few days, if not you can just pop it using a safety pin - however, if it doesn't seem that simple, I agree that you gotta get it checked out.

Happy running!
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice.

First day it was really painful, but now thankfully the pain has almost completely subsided.

Anyways, the joy of running and completing the half marathon far supersedes these meager injuries.

Congo Suvro,

What time did you make it in? And how long did you train? I have my first 10K coming up in a month.... :-)

Thanks John.

My timing was 1 hour 41 minutes. I practiced for 2 months. 7 kms a day on weekdays. I didn't run more because I have to go to office after that.
However that was not my only preparation, I generally liked to run all my life. But now I am considering participating in all the half marathons across India.

I am actually surprised that I was ignorant of such a big online community of runners till now.

All the best for your first 10k. Keep it up man
That is pretty good timing Suvra. There is a half marathon here in Siliguri on Oct 7 (Mahalaya - wonder if it is Oct 8 this time). They have the 10k and half together. You are welcome if you want to run.
