Barefoot Ted

Barefoot Ted is an independent athlete committed to re-discovering primal natural human capacities and encouraging others to do the same. Having spent the last 7 years focused on mastering barefoot long distance running, BFT now focuses on sharing his insights through coaching clinics and speaking engagements.

Many have come to know about him through the pages of Christopher McDougall's best-selling book "Born to Run", a book BFT likes to call his quirky PhD. thesis that he didn't have to write.

"The Vibram FiveFinger shoes were initially used only by sailors. Ted McDonald saw the use for them in running. He had great difficulty in first convincing the makers of Vibram that these are good running shoes! The rest is history.

In 2009, Christopher McDougall wrote the book 'Born to Run', where he described the Tarahumaras of Mexico holding a 100 mile race in the Grand Canyon. Ted ran barefoot in it, and from then on came to be known as Barefoot Ted.

BFT lives in Seattle in America, and is an extremely affable person. He calls himself the 'Monkey Man', for, unlike humans, he has only one horizontal line in his palm, which incidentally, is a simian trait.  He always wears a monkey pendant, and is a great worshipper of Hanuman."

Ted has been featured in numerous articles and frequently interviewed. He enjoys sharing his philosophy of running and life to audiences large and small.

BFT will be in India from 3rd to 15th February, 2012.

Been a while since I last ran with BFT ( http://runningengineer.com/barefoot-ted-running-workshop/ ) - really looking forward to some pure barefoot fun Sat and Sun morning - see you there :)

Naeem - It was good to see you today.

@All -  It was a fine Saturday morning with around 50 enthusiastic runners turning up at the base of Parsik Hill. Ted enthralled the audience with his experiences. At around 6.05 am, we started the 8.5 km run to SIES College via Palm Beach Road. Around 5-6 runners ran barefoot. Ted himself wore his speciality Sandals. Another 10 runners wore minimalistic shoes - vibrams etc. The rest ran with their regular shoes. The run was at an easy 6.30 mins/km pace. At the end of the run, we had a few group photographs which will get uploaded during the course of the day. We also had a lucky draw wherein 8 runners got a toegraphed copy of the"Born to Run" book. Some of us had to leave after that because we had office - the rest went with Ted to have darshan of the giant Hanuman Idol in the temple within the SIES Campus.

I would strongly encourage all to utilise tomorrow's run from Bandra to benefit from Ted's experience in barefoot running. If you are not confident of running the full 19.50 kms, please start from midway or atleast turn up at NCPA, Nariman Point for the post run discussions.

Cheers and look forward to tomorrow :)
