Friends,

Some of you know me so I think I will get good advice here.

I am in a dilemma - to run 25K or 37.5K

25K - I have done several half-marathons so this distance is not a problem for me. My target is 2 hours 30 minutes for 25K.

37.5K - I am very tempted but haven't trained for the distance. I registered for it but changed to 25K but today the temptation is back. If I could do 37.5, full marathon is just 5 km off!

My current condition : I ran 2.5 hours (20K) two weeks back and 1 hour (10K) this week.I was sick since Sunday but now mostly recovered.

Will 37.5 be too much - can it lead to break in training for the downstream marathons (I wish to significantly well at SCMM - half marathon) ?

Your opinion please.

Sanjeev

do a strong 25k and forget temptation, build gradually and feel confident when undertaking a distance
Hi Sanjeev .... why don't you start by running 25k .... If you are in a good shape and want to continue, no one will force you to stop :)

As it's raining tonight .... Floor might be wet and heavy tomorow ... and for a trail ... it's much more difficult ...

So run 25 ... and if you feel confortable you will continue ... the more difficult to convince will not be your legs, but your head :)
To do 37.5 km, I think you should do 30 ~ 32 km as your longest run two weeks before and taper down. This is my opinion.
Thanks Raju.
Thanks Jean. I was worried about that only (convincing the head part). Now it is clear.
Thanks Ashok. It's clear now.
Thanks for the very helpful tips Ashok, Jean and Raju.

I did 25K and stopped as both mind and body said ENOUGH! It was tough indeed but I am happy to finish close within 2 minutes of my target (2 hr 30 min) and several other reasons to cheer about.

I finally saw Ashok and Jean running at the Ultra - congratulations for your top finishes.
Great timings Sanjeev... Congratulations
Thanks. Congrats to you too for the excellent finish.
